Rhythm-Roots
Rhythm-Roots was my first importing business and it started in 2000. We specialized in hand carved African style Djembies made in Indonesia. The line included didgeridoos, drums and a wide assortment of clackers and shakers. They were sold in a handful of music stores across the USA. Many of my sales and references came from Phish Tour over those years selling before and after most every west coast show over those years. (First Hiatus came at a bad time for Rhythm-Roots). With the boys (Phish) disbanded and not helping pay the bills I decided to use the Rhythm Roots proceeds to send myself to the Los Angeles Music Academy to study in their guitar department.
During the first years of Rhythm-Roots we were in a warehouse in Costa Mesa, CA. Once a week we had a drum class with master drummer David Comfort leading the sessions. David and I, with the assistance of miLomedia, produced an internet video of traditional African Rhythms and drum fundamentals. I felt it necessary to bring back this instructional video for people to use as a resource. Also resurrected from Rhythm-Roots.com, is the drum tuning video, Balinese Mask Galleries and the peoples favorite, Rhythm-Roots Virtual Jam Session. Enjoy!
At this point Rhythm-Roots is near defunct. I have a half dozen large drums, two mediums, and about 40 small drums. There are a handful of shakers and didgeridoos as well. Currently, I am representing artists from around the world with JLGalleries.com, and trying to play music as much as possible.
