In order to tighten the drum one must first get to the start of the excess rope that is either tied in a handle or wrapped around the drum shell. Untie the knot, starting from the last diamond formed. Proceeding away from the last diamond pull the rope under the next two consecutive vertical strands of rope nearest the head of the drum. Pull this through and down towards the base of the drum. Next take the rope back in the opposite direction going over the second vertical strand and under the first. Finally pulling in the original direction twisting the ropes on themselves creating another half diamond. Once again pull down tight towards the base of the drum.

TIPS

We recomend gloves to protect you hands from the rope. A stick (drum stick) can be used for more leverage when pulling if the rope is wrapped around the stick several times.

Sick of reading all this? Watch our extra special drum tuning movie. It is is quicktime format and weighs about 3 megs. Enjoy!
